Not bad. Probably better in audiobook form because, you know, Irish accents. I enjoyed it, at any rate.
Artemis Fowl’s third adventure definitely offers a little something new as Artemis faces a new change. Meanwhile, his longtime bodyguard Butler is severely injuring in a deal gone wrong and his valuable cube is stolen and must team with Holly Short yet again to retrieve it. The most compelling entry in the series yet, as it also seems like something of a new start for Artemis. A- (91%/Excellent)
adventurous
A very enjoyable heist story with a touch of faery magic and hefty portion of Artemis' ingenuity, it was enjoyable on this adult reread I went of this series on following the disney adaption that left a bit to be desired.
As always, I loved getting lost in the world Eoin Colfer created for this series. I still think the first book in the series is the best, but I still adored this one. It had twists and turns (Butler!!!) and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved it so much. I would recommend this book and series. 5 out of 5 stars, easily. Can't wait to start the next one!
Started this because my daughter just finished it and asked me to read it....more later I am sure. Well, am finished and it is sort of a let down. I don't really know what I expected, but it was just ok and Emily seemed to enjoy it. Perhaps because this is the third book in the series and I hadn't read the first two? Artemis seems too unlikeable to me for him to be a main character and again, perhaps it is just that I don't have the "history" from reading the first two. However, I get the feeling that he wasn't very nice at all in the earlier books -- so, I'll just have to see. We have made our way through Lemony Snicket, Percy Jackson and the post-Jackson Riordan books -- so looking for another series that catches Em's fancy. Just not sure this series is it....
I really wavered between giving this book four stars, because for some reason, I REALLY liked it a lot more than the other Artemis Fowl books. But I kept it at a humble three stars because, well, the plot wasn't all that meaty. But this was the first Artemis Fowl book that kept me really engaged the whole time -- usually I'd space out during techie scenes and then have trouble finding my way back. Either this book had less of that, or I've gotten used to it enough that it doesn't put me off anymore! (Although I think it was the former).
I've always liked the character of Artemis Fowl, but the combination of having his parents back in his life (even though they're off-screen the whole time) and his ongoing relationship with the fairies has begun to significantly re-orient his moral compass. His character gains depth in this book, while less time is devoted to secondary characters who don't need further depth at the moment. And the ending really surprised me -- it was one of those things that you just assumed the book wouldn't *actually* do, but it did! So, now I'm excited to read the next one, and I brought it home from the library today.
