Dark, adventurous, grim, morally gray, loveable. The people are immaculate, the setting nostalgic, the writing clever. The senses of adventure and fear, the hope and grief and shame. The characters are thoroughly developed, deep, real. Their motives make sense.

I read Chai's 2 star review criticizing the lack of quiet moments for processing, and I get that. It probably could be a more powerful story if the pace relented for just a moment and let our dear Galaxy think. But it doesn't diminish my absolute delight over this book. Still a 5 star read from me.

Wow. I thought Ninth House was good but this was just next level! I am so excited for the third book and conclusion to this series.

Another excellent book from Bardugo; I couldn't put it down. 
However. There are a number of new plot threads that seemed unnecessary at times, and I am honestly not sure how they will be tied up in a probable-but-not-yet-confirmed Book 3... or if they even can be. There is also more gore;

the continual references and visuals of the mangled dead rabbit

were viscerally uncomfortable for me. 
I enjoyed the theoretical aspects; the themes of good, evil, and what you have to do to survive; and the found family and forging of relationships. Who wouldn't go to hell and back for their friends and loved ones?
