Well, well, well. Color me impressed.
I admit that I was bit skeptical about continuing the series after finishing "Master of the Abyss". But Virgil and Summer made me want to continue, and now I'm hooked. I loved our main leads' relationship and I liked them individually. I liked seeing Virgil fall into the lifestyle and falling for Summer. I saw some character development when it came to Virgil that has shown he has changed for the better since the last book. The only reason why I couldn't convince myself to give it 5 stars is because there just wasn't that much of it so it felt at times a bit surface level; the drama ended quickly, it was also predictable, since the tone of the book was a bit somber(ish), what with Summer learning to trust again after that asshole hurt her, it is understandable. That said, what attracted me to CS's books were primarily the interesting characters and the humor. In this story we get interesting characters, but the humor is almost nonexistent.
The series seems to be a bit of hit and miss so far, but I'm enjoying the ride. Peace out✌

This novella by Sinclair, unlike so much of her other work, simply didn't grab me. I liked the concept of a relatively new dom, and the struggle of a sub to trust a dom again after abuse. but I just didn't connect to the actual characters much. Summer felt rather bland, Virgil was probably just too much of a cowboy for my tastes, and the story felt both rushed and forced. Why would a random stranger attack a woman in someone else's house for no apparent reason, for instance? Things just worked out too easily. I think, given the amount of character development Sinclair does in her longer books, that her stories may simply suffer from being shorter. Her novellas don't grab me as well as her full-length novels do. I set this story down, for instance, about 2/3 of the way through, and didn't pick it up for several months. I finally finished it just so it would stop staring at me from my kindle screen. Not a bad story. just not very engaging or memorable for me. I'll just look forward to more of her future books instead.

Still a good book. Virgil is still a standout with his confidence and yet also apprehension about hurting a woman.

Oh I think Virgil is now my favourite. I really liked that he was unsure of being a Dom and really struggled with hurting Summer even if she wanted it. I liked the way he really focused on communication and watched Summer to understand her needs and wants, and although he was trying to work out what he wanted he never came across as unsure. It was good to see them both work through their issues.
