This was FASCINATING. As someone who knows very little about the brain or treatments for brain diseases (though I work with the same technology as the author's wife, which was cool), I learned a ton in this book. Yes, it probably could have been trimmed a bit, but I really loved covering everything and ending with how music is arranged in other cultures.

A pretty good book - far-ranging and possibly in need of a bit of editing, but some good insights. Nothing revolutionary or novel, really. I feel like Levitin’s written this same book several times now. He did manage to keep the worst of his self-aggrandizing tendencies in check and I enjoyed his reading of his own text. I’m very happy I chose to listen to this text instead of physically reading it. Even in audiobook, parts of it were a bit sloggy.

It was a fun deep dive into the neuroscience of music therapy.
