Caught in the Storm centres on a village family during the time of colonial rule. Benfa has just arranged for the marriage of his eldest daughter Kany. She is distraught since she wants to continue her education and be with her boyfriend. She adamantly does not want to become the third wife to a much older man. I found this to be very readable and engaging, highlighting the clash between generations, between the older traditional ways and the newer European ways. It was interesting and instructive to see the push and pull between the two, as different people attempted to use a mix of old and new to resolve this conflict.
