I keep trying to like Bolaño, but I just need to come to grips with the fact that I do not. At all. Not even a little bit.

An interesting, enjoyable book. Although the review said it has a lot in common with a police procedural that was the least interesting aspect. The kaleidoscope narrative from the perspective of three different narrators -- many of whom don't like each other -- centers around a a beautiful ice skater, a rink a bureaucrat diverts money to build, an aging opera singer, and her young friend. Unique, looking forward to reading more by Bolano.

Reading this on the beach in CT was absolutely so blissful and perfect i felt like i was falling in love with Nuria as i read which also made me feel a little bit sick. Kind of stereotypical """"male gaze""""-y at times but idc parts of it were kinda genius bolaño can write whatever who care.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as anticipated. I have never read anything else by Bolano, but everyone I know raves about him. Although the book is told from three points of view, I only liked reading the story through the eyes of the fat man, Enriq. My book club is talking about this today. I'm very interested to hear their thoughts.

Pretty good! Easy read, and it's very well-crafted by Bolano. A simple story told very poetically.
