The Idea of You

Have you ever read a book that consumed you so completely that you have a hard time letting go of the characters long after you finished their story? That’s what is happening to me right now. The Idea of You was recommended to me by a fellow reader and after seeing some of the reviews I was hesitant to start it. I like my stories wrapped up tightly in a neat little bow but from what I gathered, that wasn’t going to happen with this one. So, I put off reading it until finally I could not longer STOP staring at it on my shelf and I dug in. What happened then was an obsession of epic proportions.

This book is unlike any that I have read before. It felt sophisticated, sensual, and honest. The story is raw, unflinching, and devastating in its own way, but so real that I couldn’t help myself when it came to agreeing with the author on the way it ended. Sure, if she were to write a follow-up, I would gobble it up and love it as deeply as I loved this one, but if she doesn’t, I’m honestly okay with that. SPOILER ALERT Don’t expect this book to end the way you want it to if you prefer neat little HEA’s. DO GO INTO IT if you can appreciate the fact that some love stories aren’t perfect and don’t always end the way we want them.

I don’t want to spoil the plot because this is honestly a novel that needs to be felt by readers, but I can say that this is one of the best book I have ever read. The Idea of You is an age gap romance of epic proportions. Solene is a woman who just turned 40 and Hayes is a 21-year-old boy in a boy band. When they come together (and watching it happen is astonishing and beautiful) the two must navigate love, stardom, and societal norms that push against them. This is a sensual love story that will give you goosebumps and one so achingly honest that you yourself will want to experience. I can’t say enough good things about this novel and honestly, recommend it to all readers.

What the hell happened between Hayes and Oliver? Secret never explained.

Ending made me cry and RIOT.

Loved this book but was ruined by the ending which is why I can’t give it 5 stars. 😢

This made an impression and stayed with me after I read it. Would definitely recommend.
