It reads almost like a collection of short stories rather than a book with parallel plot lines

The star rating is for the writing, bc ofc I'm not going to judge the story itself, since it's a memoir. This book was amazing, I feel like I learned a lot from it, it also made me self-reflect and feel for both Lori and her patients (the ammount I cried with Julie's chapters, and also towards the end with John's...).
With books with writing styles like this one (where you have multiple kind-of POV's and/or jumps in the timeline) sometimes you feel like "oh cmon, this was just getting good" when one chapter ends and the new one starts in a different place/talking about a different thing, and while I did feel like "aw man" when we changed patient or timeline with each chapter, I would immediately become interested in the new patient/theme.
Overall I really enjoyed it and would recommend it
