Aren't we done with streams of consciousness without punctuation? It works somehow, and the dialogues are actually one of the most realistic I've ever read, with all the redundancy and boringness that comes with talking to friends you've known all your life about subjects you've talked about a million times. If you want to read a book that will motivate you to meet new people or do something, really anything, this is the book for you.
Also the names, what's with the names - is it just pretentious or am I stupid? For a long time it felt like a search for a subtext that wasn't there, and in the end it's just plain, depressing loneliness that didn't need the trauma or the alter ego to legitimise it. Period!

Starting off strong, and I have no doubts the masterful mundanity shown here will continue into the next two parts.

I picked this up with little context. What can be at times both a difficult read and an easy one, the novel sheds a unique light on the ordinary. I find (through further reading) that each reader comes away with a different perspective. That’s the sign of a job well done. The novel is poignant and captures loneliness well. Deserving of its accolades in my lowly opinion.
