Claire G. Coleman is a new favourite author after listening to this book. As a white Australian this book took me on such a moving journey of the experiences of our First Nations people. This book is filled with so much horrifying truth that it took me until half way through to realise why I found it in the fantasy/sci-fi section. The characters were so vivid and real that a really felt everything they went through.

Absolutely 10 out of 10 stars, and I will be looking for more of Claire's books.

Obvious, incoherent and poorly written.

Tackling the themes of slavery and colonialism, this novel will pull the rug from under you, and you'll most likely like it.
This slow paced novel is told from both points of view of the invaders and the colonized, beginning in what seems to be a historical setting and ending with a bang.

I'm keeping this review as vague as possible. No one warned me, and no one should warn you either.

I think the true story is probably horrible enough. But I hope this makes the story more accessible for people who haven’t heard the real version.

In her debut, [a: Claire G. Coleman|17007382|Claire G. Coleman|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/f_50x66-6a03a5c12233c941481992b82eea8d23.png] has crafted a tale of settlers and indigenous people at odds in Australia. It's so well crafted, that I didn't even realize is was set in the future and that the Settlers aren't humans. All the feelings I had reading the beginning of the book stoked my sense of outrage and shame for the way indigenous Australians have been treated; Claire certainly knows her subject! None of that changed with the Settlers recast as extra-terrestrials; just more people repeating the same treacheries and atrocities, it hardly matters their DNA. Perhaps that makes it more accessible to some, and that's all to the good. The story was really well told, with characters to love, hate, cheer for, and wish for come-uppances. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to more.

I loved the way this story was told - colonization but make it SFF!

The writing itself was just okay; lots of repetitive phrases. I’ve read the authors’ later novels and this isn’t an issue anymore.

I still really enjoyed this.
