Decently done and interesting, but I still felt like by the ending, not a whole lot had been accomplished (because there had to be a compromise, of course, but, still...)

I rated this a 4 star originally based on my memory of the story, but upon re-reading it I can say it's easily a 5 star. My biggest qualm is with the ending, but the overall story itself is a must-read.

That was cool. Pointless, since Captain America is stupid and wrong, but cool.

I decided to re-read this trade since the movie came out. I had read the mini-series event when it was first coming out, but I was also reading some of the tie-ins and other spinoff books. While I enjoy the works of Millar and especially the art of McNiven; this book does not stand on its own especially if you a casual comic book reader. There's a lot of history and backstory being thrown here. Not to mention that the gaps this trade leaves makes it hard to understand it as one singular story. You definitely need some of the tie-ins to read along with this.

3rd time I've been through it now. Still really good. The reason I've made it a 4 star and not a 5 star is because of how Mark Millar deals with Captain America and the ending. So this time I was going to read it completely focused on Captain America and see if I can make sense of the ending from his perspective. That being said, all I can come up with for a response is "I can sort of see it now..."

This was disjointed, and not just because it was originally released in serial format. A massive Marvel civil war without the X-Men? Weird. A lot of the characters involved are too minor in the context of the Marvel Universe for the casual comic book reader to understand. Although I didn't read any of them, I get the feeling a lot of the gaps of the main plot were filled in by ancillary books, which shouldn't be the case--those books should enrich the experience, not make the continuity depend on them. I also disagreed with Spider-man's decision, which I felt was out of character and created just so there would be another Big-Name Character Difference Of Opinion. Overall a decent effort, but I think Marvel bit off more than it could chew with this project.

Campy fun! A nice escape. I saw Avengers: Age of Ultron and wanted some more.
