I liked it a lot more when I first read this book. Now it doesn't have that same charm any more. Still it's a great portrait of a communist community and pretty much any other society, but the one thing missing in this book is an absorbing story line and character portrayal.

Simply a masterpiece, although I thought it was going to end in a different way, like they were going to lose the farm to humans, but surprisingly it ended in a more miserable way than i could imagine.....

Tremenda sátira, te cuenta la revolución rusa de una forma bastante clara y sencilla de comprender
I read this book when I was a teenager, and I remember thinking it was deep and powerful. But I just reread it, and I now realize I didn't have a clue what it was really all about back then. I guess I just knew I was supposed to find it profound.
I don't really have a lot to say about it now, other than that I thought it was an excellent book. I don't always have patience for allegory, but Animal Farm is very short, so it's easy to sustain interest. And it is a powerful story. I also have little patience for pure socialism or other systems that rely on what I see as naive notions of equality that totally disregard actual human nature. I'm not saying that I think human nature is fundamentally dark. I think it's the case that most people are basically good, if a little selfish, but they are rather opportunistic. And people are also awesome at justifying anything they want to, as well as totally disregarding things they don't want to think about or believe. Add in the fact that some people really are evil, and it's pretty clear that systems that depend on people being fair and good are never going to be sustainable, because all it takes is one person or group of people to start taking advantage of the others, and everything falls apart. And Animal Farm illustrates just how this can happen. You have all the players here, from the gullible and trusting types, to the smart and creative but not politically savvy ones, to the real evil swindlers.
