Brilliant. O'Conner shows a chilling yet remarkably familiar view of people. While the characters are often bizarre, they are also painfully and completely human. An uncomfortable read, but eminently worthwhile. The way religion plays into the book is artfully done, particularly when it comes to the protagonist's preaching the doctrine of the "Church Without Christ." Enoch Emory is also an unforgettable character.

Flannery O'Connor is a master of welding the uncanny and strange into a story with depth. Wise Blood is eclectic and timeless.
