I watched the series a year ago and loved it so my experience was colored by my memories of the actors’ portrayals. I liked this book a lot, but it made me sad, and I think it’s the opposite of romantic. Connell and Marianne may seem real, but they weren’t a good couple. My hope is that Marianne goes to therapy and finds someone who truly loves her when connell’s in New York (maybe she’s bi and will date her one good college friend?). She deserves more than Connell, and Connell needs a girlfriend who will call out his bullshit.

I can't un-recommend this book enough. I have no.interest in reading about a woman who is a complete doormat for her husband's bullying and massive ego. I think I got about 1/3 of the way and couldn't bear it anymore. Don't waste your time.

I've liked previous Lackberg books but really struggled with this one as I just couldn't find myself liking any of the characters. It's quite a complex story and weaves back and forth in time. I struggled to keep up with what time period I was in. Some of that could be blamed on the kindle as it didn't separate the sections like a paper back would. However with no chapters or headings it's not all on my reading material. Not for me this one.
