After being disappointed by the second film in the series I decided to give the next novel a go. Enjoyable, but I found it slow at times and not as gripping as the first.

I'm wondering about what all the hype is about these books. I wouldn't read the third one except I want to know what's going to happen with Berger and the change of magazines. . .

I think this book is meant to be read quickly. That would help you not be too critical about all the distractions that make this book so much less than it might have been. Needs a good editor.

It's not a bad read -- lots of plot, reasonable action. Blomkvist is presented here as a dull plodder, which I hadn't noticed in book 1. Salander is even more multi-superpowered than before, to the point of silliness. In book 3 I fully expect her to stop time so she can get something done in peace.

Far too much of this: He got into his 1991 Saab Hotstuff V2000, drove down Boogerborg to IKEA, bought two Billy bookcases and an Ingmar spoon, drove back via Salmingsrad to avoid the roundabout of Snotgraad, stopped for yet another load of Billy's Pan Pizzas, checked his Motorola F123VD phone, then hurried home, his Michelin all-season Fatso tyres squealing on the corners. He brewed a cup of espresso, and poured it into a Dimbrorg mug with a teaspoon of milk.

Silly ending, too. Implausible actions with even more implausible results. And without spoiling, did he really think we'd read book 2 without knowing there was a book 3? It's that knowledge that makes some events especially implausible.

Hasn't grabbed me yet like the first one. We'll see. (The Swedish movie of the first book was really good.) It was a good ending, but a bit mechanical through the middle. Still I'll definitely go for #3.

The first segment of the book, specifically the relationship Lisbeth has, seems very out of character for her. Initially turned me off from reading. Far too many proper nouns everywhere, hard to keep the details straight. Had some interesting bits and characters, but tended to spread the readers attention too thin.
