This is one of the most boring books I've ever read. I had to stop reading for a few months, then I was able to push through until the end. It feels like a cash-grab on the part of Dashner: there was no reason for this book to be written. In fact, it felt like it weakened the other books. Instead of exploring other characters or topics, we got to watch the same cast of characters form the exact same friendships. Wouldn't it have been interesting (and heartbreaking) to see Thomas have deep and genuine friendships that, after his memory was erased, he never remembered?

This book was pointless, and the worst part was that it was boring. While reading the original trilogy, I found that the constant go-go-go of the plot and constant violence became boring after awhile. Especially when several nameless characters died and we were supposed to care about them. This book had the opposite problem. Most of the book was told through summaries of what was happening, in which Thomas repeatedly did a whole lot of nothing. In the brief times that there were actual action/plot beats... I couldn't find it in me to care.

That said, I did enjoy the ending. Dashner is really good at making me hate the same character for four books... although I don't think that was his intention.
