So yeah...you find out who the Adversary is, which does come as a bit of a surprise. Boy Blue is a badass. I’m definitely liking his character more and more. The Arabian fables are introduced in this volume and they are dicks, but Totenkinder totally got the better of some of them. Lot’s of interesting things happening. I’m looking forward to reading more.

This was another great introduction to the Fables world and the craziness that is about to ensue. I absolutely adored and loved everything about this volume including finding out who the adversary is and why he decided to conquer so many lands. I didn't realize it at the time, but this volume also includes information related to the volume Arabian Nights and Days. It was great to see characters that were considered to be Fables from the Middle East. I don't remember thinking about this when I read these volumes the first time; however, I'm interested in knowing where there are more fables and what areas of the world they inhabit. I'm coming close to the volumes where I stopped so after that I'll be gaining new information and I'm really excited. As always the characters were fun and refreshing, the artwork was extraordinary, and I'm really digging the plot. I'm currently waiting for the next volume at the library.

Great stories and even greater art. If you like the TV show Once Upon a Time you'll enjoy this comic.

The major arc in this volume of the always marvellous Fables series describes Boy Blue's return to the Homelands on a secret mission. And in the process, he retrieves huge amounts of intelligence, and finally uncovers the identity of the Adversary. Despite hints in previous volumes, I must confess that it took me by surprise, but it totally works (and his description of his rise to power is chilling). And Boy Blue is pretty awesome as a lone hero, cutting a swathe through the Empire on his mission.

Back in Fabletown, we see a delegation of Arabian fables arrive in embassy, and how the European ones struggle to deal with them, as well as seeing just how well, or badly, Prince Charming is dealing with being mayor. Some other old favourites get screen time too (including a surprisingly awesome role for King Cole, who's been a bit of a comedy side character until now), and there are some surprises in store for others. Snow and her boys appear, but in a side capacity, just driving the plot forward.

Oh, and there's also the preparation for the spinoff Jack of Fables series, which actually starts the book. I must confess that Jack has never really done an awful lot for me. He's arrogant, lazy and a bit of a grifter. His escapades in Hollywood were mildly amusing, but I don't really have any interest in seeking out the spinoff.

So, apart from Jack, another complete success. The whole 'Adversary' plot is picking up pace and after five volumes, I'm pretty invested in the major characters. I look forward to the next one now.

This is by no means a bad book- I actually really enjoyed it- but after the previous edition, I was looking forward to more Bigby and Snow. I was extremely happy with Arabian Nights (And Days) , but overall I was quite disappointed with Homelands , although it was still enjoyable, and I love Boy Blue. It's always fun seeing him be a badass, in comparison to how chill he is in his office job.

I'm pretty sure the next one has Bigby's return in it, and I'm glad I read this because it means I know what's going on in the sixth edition. Super pumped!
