DID NOT FINISH: 45%

DNF on page 115 (part two)

*sigh* I have been catfished by another beautiful cover. Sadly, it’s contents were nearly unbearable.
At least it will look beautiful on a coffee table and remind me of a great day with a friend.

This book is mostly vignettes of unlikable characters and their interwoven lives. Do you want to imagine what it’s like to hang out with rich people who think they’ve uncovered some novel and remarkable thoughts about the meaning of life? This is the book for you. Do you want any plot points resolved? Not the book for you. There were some charming moments, but I found this book to be so frustrating. Why didn’t the author just write an essay instead of this novel?

The number of topics that St. Aubyn has shoehorned into this book boggles the mind:

* Schizophrenia
* Adpotion
* Brian Tumors
* Excessive wealth and what it can cause/do
* Nature and the damage humans wreak
* Meditation
* Religion
* Epigenetics
* The search for happiness or blissful state
* Unexpected pregnancy
* Sex and fidelity
* Nature vs. Nurture
* And more!

I was exhausted after this book and I'm not sure that it was worth it.
