The story was a sweet, all be it a bit confusing sometimes, story of Harper Cabot, the owner of a haberdashery and a widow of one year; and Amy Mellish a women fallen on hard times and forced to work as a prostitute to survive. They meet outside of her shop one night and unexpectedly Harper offers Amy sanctuary in his home as it freezing outside.

The love story between Amy and Harper is sweet, but it was a bit confusing how Amy seemed to revert to a street walker to seduce Harper... but the two of them fall in lust and love and the rest of the story was really sweet.

I thought adding the element of the killer, killing women who sleep rough, was a nice element as I've just finished listening to a podcast on jack the ripper's victims lives and how sleeping rough was something they had in common. I could understand Amy's fear of sleeping outside and her relief at finding a safe haven.

Harper's grief was also handled sensitively and the author showed how stuck he was living in the past, and how Amy's life and presence helped him move on.

The love story was very sweet and I liked the book
