This story tells the story of Memphis, Sky and Josh. Three kids with a tonne of trauma, dropped next door to each other as kids and left to figure it out. We know what happens to Josh, thanks to the "The Words" and all I have to say is, couldn't of happened to a nicer fellow.
Memphis... oh my gosh Memphis. I am not sure if it's just how I read it, but I definitely read him as autistic and I loved the representation. As far as book boyfriends go, it's between him and Reiner Kulti as brooding men I will die on a mountain for.
Sky is a fantastic female character and given Jade gave her a classically tragic backstory (usually I find these a little too on the nose and poorly done) and made her stunning, I was surprised how much I warmed to her. She was a great combination or confident and insecure, fun and serious, vulnerable and strong... just like most women I know!
The story is dark at times and this is much more of a slow burn than I expected but the pay off is worth it. Thoroughly enjoyable read. Will be looking out for The Consequence.

Prepare yourself to go through such a wide range of emotions. If you're coming into this after finishing The Words, you'll definitely have a ton of questions answered and a better understanding of these three characters. I was able to connect a lot of dots, but my goodness, I never imagined the beginning of them to be like this. All three of these characters are broken in their own ways and have gone through their share of trauma. And you'll see that really come through their thoughts and actions, as maddening as they can be.
Ashley warned us from the beginning that we had to get through the extremely tough beginning of Skylar and Memphis story before we get their HEA. And I just know it'll be all worth it, but I have zero idea how my heart will hold up. I was definitely surprised by certain things, infuriated with naivety of one character (yet understanding why). Your heart will feel one thing, but your mind will make you understand.
Yes, there's a cliffhanger and oof, knife in the heart. The Consequence won't be too far away, thank goodnes because that book is an absolute need.
I survived The Choice, but just barely.
Bravo, Ashley... you've done it again!
