3.5 ⭐️
Look, I loved him for the majority, but my guy was pissing me off in the last 3rd. And I feel like it could’ve done with a little less smut, cause the smut scenes were definitely over crowding it a little. Like their relationship was 90% smut and 10% Luke in denial over the fact he’s in love with her when it’s so blatantly obvious. ALSO, THERES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN QUIET AND MYSTERIOUS AND JUST BEING A DICK WHO KEEPS SHIT TO “protect” HIMSELF. MY GOD. YOU DONT JUST HIDE THE FSCT YOU HAVE A DEAD WIFE.
Like you grieving is personally not a justifiable reason to get in a relationship with someone (cause idc what he thought it was, it was most certainly a relationship) and just keep from them the tiny fact that you used to be married, and that person is now dead from a tragic, traumatic accident.
But besides from that I really liked the found family aspect of everything and the fmc was fun and I did like her

OK, so, I've never really had a romance novel before, (other than the classics, years back) and I was given this book as a small gift as my friends know I like the smuttier/dark/world building side of reading and thought I'd enjoy this?
I went in expecting it to be awful, I wasn't expecting to become invested in the characters ending. But, whilst I was excited by their relationship at times, I was equally, if not exasperated by their back story, lifestyle and
wetwipe attitudes. I don't know if this is the normal style of a pick me up book like this, but it was not my cup of tea, but still mildy interesting.
I got so frustrated by Harpers ability to breeze into people's lives and brighten them up with little to no resistance, match making like she is a god of love and a complete inability to maintain her hot headedness she showed at the beginning of the story. Luke only had his perfect body to show for character it seemed, I know he was meant to be moody, sultry and harbouring a deep secret (which was an obvious 'twist') but he was simply dull, selfish (even though he is portrayed as being the oposite for those he loves....but its his rules only) and a complete wet wipe. However, I have a feeling its meant to be like that? All fits in nicely, perfect living, all the money they need etc...
I would give it 2 but that's unkind because it's not terribly written, I was hooked at times, it was a happy story, and I would of loved it if it was a slow burner, it was so fast paced it annoyed me from the second chapter.... I finished it, and I did find myself smiling and content with the book.
I would recommend to those who enjoy this style of book, it was a nice read and I did read it relatively quickly and I certainly enjoyed the authors style of writing, was easy to digest. I would even consider reading another story of hers in the future, so it wasn't that bad!
I'm saying 3 stars mainly due to my tastes.

enjoyed this but there was a definite lull in the middle of the book
I am a fan of Lucy Score. Overall, I really liked this book. It did run a bit long in parts for me. Lots of characters to introduce to you.
Harper arrives in Benevolence, MD without her purse or money. Her car is out of gas, and it stops in a bar parking lot. She gets out of the car and sees a man physically abusing a woman and attacks him. In comes Luke to the rescue. Luke is a Captain in the National Guard and owns his own construction business.
This is a love story between Luke & Harper with some steamy romance scenes.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.
