Cat deftly balanced a fluffy, funny historical romance with danger and blackmail and highwayman shenanigans, added in some beautifully rising levels of emotional and sexual tension, and then took me out at the knees with the tender intimacies of mundane things. This wasn’t just another steamy histrom—it was so. much. more.

I am finding that I love love love queer romances so much. Romance and I have been on a journey the last few months, and I'm so happy that I finally figured out where my niche is in this genre. Well I have read many different romances lately, this is the first historical romance that I have loved this deeply.

The story follows to gentleman, Kit and Percy. Kit is a retired thief and Percy is the son of a Duke. Kit was injured on a former job, where he also lost his partner, and has since been running a coffee shop, although he is feeling a little bit stifled by that. Percy needs the help of a criminal to bring down his father. They meet, they flirt, they fall in love, they do criminal things, and they form a baby real and deep connection.

This is a very slow burn type of story. While you know that both characters like each other, it takes a very long time for anything to happen between the two of them. But when it does, oh boy, it was good. I appreciate that Sebastian did not do the trope of a third act break up which happens often in romance novels. Percy and Kit have a fairly honest relationship and communicate with each other.

I really recommend this for anyone who enjoys regency romances, queer love stories with bisexual representation which is super important to me personally, found family, a band of lovable criminals, and genuine laughs.

Highly recommend.

I really love a queer historical romance! And I was hooked when I found out the title character, Kit Webb, was a former (?) highwayman. I really enjoyed this book, but I do think it dragged in certain places. But, in true Cat Sebastian fashion, the love story more than makes up for it.

This was so sweet and fun - the perfect summer Saturday evening read. The banter is cute, the mischief - the plotting and fighting and sneaking around - makes for a great level of excitement and the romance is hot but also rather adorable with both characters having a hint of fragility and that blooming love awkwardness.

I can’t wait for the next book next year to find out what happens with x & x but also for more of Kit and Percy!
