really liked this installment of the Tom Thorne series but I never got fully hooked though (in the sense that it became a page turner) so it was a much slower read than I'd anticipated ... great story though and a good next step in the series ...

Billingham can write. I love to read how he strings words together. The problem I have with this book is officers not acting like they have in previous books. Some of the plot was a little out there. Not as good as previous books but not bad enough to not at least give the next book a shot. Still great characters which really saves this book.

I cannot stand Tom Thorne. The premise of this book was interesting but between the authors inability to lean away from stereotypes and the main characters inability to entertain the fact that a woman may be in danger, I just cannot.

This one wasn’t a favorite. The ex-DCI is an interesting character but the other women remain rather utilitarian stereotypes.
