I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would? It feels like a bit of a mix between the Night Circus and the Shades of Magic series! Both a portal story and a magical realism love story.

I very much enjoyed this recently released fantasy. I just now am realizing how many books about alternate, magical Londons there are! Although there seems to be a whole lot, Witherward offers something fresh and original. I adored Isla and her traits, especially her independence and strength which I seem to be very drawn to in MCs (aren't most people?). The book is engaging and fun, full of fantastical elements and an imaginative alt. London. Definitely will be keeping my eye out for the second in the installment.

Like many others have said the ending felt rushed. I enjoyed the puzzles in the middle but felt as though the book could have been slowed down. Then split into a duology that is more fleshed out and interesting.
