Somehow nobody got drugged or trapped in a burning building in this one. Never fear, there were still arrows being bandied about and plenty of bonks on the head.

Evina essentially kidnaps Conran believing him to be his brother Rory, who is a healer. It’s all quite a big misunderstanding, leading to Conran not correcting the mistake initially. He’s at MacLean with no way to know if those around him are truly friends and not foes. Just when I was starting to feel the ruse of his real identity was going on too long, the truth was out. Of course, the Buchanans descend onto MacLean to see what’s up and then stay to help protect Evina who is under threat by an unknown assailant.

There came a time in this book where Saidh remarks about the hidden passageways and one of the brothers talks about how the women the Buchanan men fall for are always in peril. I was glad it was being acknowledged because if nobody would have realized there were secret passages after everything this group has been through it would have been the one thing I couldn’t suspend my disbelief for.

Of course, Evina fits right in with the other ladies in this family. In fact, she’s a lot like Conran’s sister Saidh. Having grown up feeling she’d never find a man who would let her be herself because she’s not ladylike and proper, Conran is the perfect mate for her. He would never think of tempering his sister’s personality so he thinks nothing of Evina’s strong personality. It’s one of the things he likes the most about her.

Once again the author found the perfect match in these two. This story has a great balance of heat, mystery, affection, and mayhem.
