Yahooo!! I finally finished a book!! Lol. I gave this book 2 stars, which is rather generous on my part. I thought the story line was going to be great where it was mediocre. Not sure I liked any of the characters, really. It would have been nice to have been a bit more in depth with the characters instead of scraps here and there. Not one of my favorite reads.

This book tackled some big issues which I was not expecting and I thought that was handled very well. The romance seemed forced to me, I wasn't feeling like they had a connection and just couldn't get excited about it.
Oooooooh my stars, this BOOK. After four mediocre reads in a row, plus two DNFs, I was grasping at straws and, “Little old ladies making funereal casserole? How bad could it be?” But y’all, it was gooooooooood.
This beautiful book begins like any cozy mystery with a sweet old lady hooked by an internet scammer and bilked out of her mortgage money, on the verge of losing her house and the security of her old age. It continues on with a rom-com twin plot: hunky tv celebrity, gorgeous girl-next-door/plucky entrepreneur.
BUT.
Oooooh. It gets deep. Deep into the wounds of untreated trauma. Deep into generational scars and facing the demons of the past. Deep into the choices that differentiates love from selfish infatuation. Deep into what it takes to make amends, and what it costs to accept them. Deep into what makes a community strong and resilient. It’s beautiful. Gah.
The writing style is practical and solid. Nothing flowery, nothing flashy, nothing embarrassingly touchy-feely. The small town ambience is created with just the right touch, not condescending or twee. It’s Goldilocks— just right.
