This volume does a fantastic job balancing the three different fights going on while also continuing with the forward momentum from the previous volume. Though mostly an action forward chapter, there’s plenty of great character moments where you can see how the characters have grown (again, Shikamaru especially). In my memory we’re close approaching the end of this arc, but I also know that there are several volumes left before

the time skip

, so we’ll see what the next one has in store!

While I enjoy the story, I need the story to move along because it's almost enough with these fights by now. I think with Kiba's opponent we're moving into a unique body horror territory, which in a bit more of a mature series could be so, so creepy. Also poor Shikamaru always fighting girls... or well there's a pattern forming with him fighting girls, but I don't know if it continues later in the series.
