if you can avoid knowing anything about the concept and characters (besides its connection to the series) before this, highly recommend
because i did NOT expect my girl to turn into a bear and there’s a fuckin bear on the cover
. madam kingfisher really batting 1000 with kinda awkward middle aged people being really adorable together. it was a little slow for me in certain bits but the ending was so fun

Really horny and really funny. Badass also.
Ending too abrupt. Give me an epilogue damnit!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were slightly less annoying in their will-they-won't-they dynamics than in the previous book in the series, it felt like they had better reasons for their hesitation. It became a bit annoying after a while though, I would have loved a shorter slow-burn. Luckily there was enough action to keep me distracted from my annoyance.

A pattern of unrequited longing, a satisfying romance, a horrifying villain, lots of witty banter. Check, check, check, and check: this is by Kingfisher.

Another White Rat cozy mystery fantasy romance. Just as good as the others I've read. This one had the other benefits of being set far from the previous ones and so worked in more new characters, locations, and cultures, while also including plenty of references and characters from previous books. The romance was a bit less spicy, but the adventure was more adventurous, so bit a bad trade off.

T. Kingfisher is great at writing loveable characters. I’m excited to read more about Galen.

I adore how Istvhan and Clara are built for each other, how their deep, dark secret flaws are exactly what makes them perfect for each other. As always, the main characters are kind and humorous. Sigrid, Galen, and Brindle are all vibrant and each charming in their own way.

The story is a quest and a mystery braided together with a romance on a road trip. It really has everything.

We get to visit a new city, with problems the Temple of the White Rat
can't really solve, but tries to manage anyway.
