Intet rigtigt plot og den mest abrupte slutning jeg længe har læst.

I always feel a little strange when I don't like the writing of someone critically acclaimed. I found it really hard to focus on this very short book, and my eyes kept glazing over. I didn't think "fairy tales with dark shadows", but rather a dull story of baronesses and duchesses and then at the end, there's a scandal, that came out of nowhere. It was strange and boring.

"Ehrengard is the young Valkyrie who is drawn steadily deeper into an unwanted role in the intrigue, her powerful but only half-awakened nature subjected to appalling conflicts of loyalty, but not overwhelmed. Disquieting, clairvoyant, and with a faint, bewitching humour, this is creative writing of intense originality." - This is the summery here on goodreads. That definitely sounds like a book I would want to read; I did not read it.

I feel in love with Isak Dinesen's writing in college after reading "The Cloak". When I went to Denmark in 2000, I visited her home and made it a point to buy those books of hers that I hadn't been able to find. Ehrengard was the last book that I brought. I read it in one afternoon. It's a great book. It is lighter than many of her short stories; hilarously in some places even. Dinesan's style is still there, you can tell its her work, but there is difference in it. It's more chatty. Ehrengard also has one of the best endings in literature.
