A retelling of Hamlet set in the future. Hayden finds his father dead in their lab where a major breakthrough in the study of extending life has just been made. The lab goes into lockdown, everyone suspects Hayden and his Uncle Charles, both accusing one another. The story is told through excerpts of memoirs, transcripts, camera footage, and letters all compiled and put together by a researcher.

Honestly, I was bored through most of it. If the story had stayed being through Felicia's PoV I think I would have enjoyed it more. But Hayden's perspective was convoluted and confusing. I also was not the biggest fan of Horatio being an incorporial AI who is in love with Hayden. But that could just be me. The writing was lovely though and kept me from DNFing.

Maaaaaan I was so excited for this. It wasn't bad, necessarily, but I didn't find anything about it enjoyable. The science fiction and mystery felt muted and didn't make me feel curious or intrigued at all. The writing style was convulated in a way that I could barely tell any details of what was going on.

sometimes when I read a retelling i am so excited about it because what is the author going to do? what is going to happen! it feels like reading a whole new work of fiction. this felt like horatio/hamelt AI fanfiction that was so predictable and boring I can't believe I finished it. seriously, what the fuck was up with
hayden (hamlet) and horatio mind fucking? completely irrelevant to the plot the first time it happened and like. why are y'all fucking in this situation what the fuck?
it was billed as lgbt and just really wasn't, sorry. an AI identifying as male does not make an lgbt book! I'm going to rewatch the Lion King because at least that has ghosts.
