I was into it until halfway through the book when Hiro’s in the library; it just becomes boring information overload and downhill from there.

Some really interesting and intriguing ideas, but absolutely terribly story telling in places. Basically chapters with one character teaching the other about something, as if in a lecture. Needs a bit more show don't tell!

Significantly tonally different to other cyberpunk contemporaries; erring on the side of the anarchic and irreverent Gen Z vibe that it predates and predicts. Striking imagery and ideas are conjured as is a fun protagonist. Lost me somewhat by the end, but starts cinematically.

I enjoyed the book a lot, and the characters were very well written. It can be a bit of a slog at times but I didn't mind that too much, especially with how well written the action segments were. This book is a cool relic of its time as it greatly described an online virtual reality world despite it being written before the internet was commonplace.

It really did NOT need that underage sex scene though. I felt disgusted reading that.
