Kind of outdated and didn’t like how the MC talked about the female character

This was a really cool world that is unfortunately filled with really forgettable, wooden characters, frustrating pacing, and some really uncomfortable situations. Still kept my interest, but maybe a case of its reputation coming by way of being first rather than actually good.

DNF'd at 71%.

Listen. I tried really hard to get into this book. Wasn't immediately appealing to me, but I decided to keep persevering hoping that the story got better. It didn't. At times it felt like I was reading a conversation I would have with ChatGPT about Sumerian history for entire chapters and has a holy hell of exposition dumps. I get its supposed to be a bit satirical, but its too on the nose. None of the characters are compelling at all. It's also just way too long. Why do I need to read an entire page going over an email to a side character about communal toilet paper in the workplace? Why do I care?

Final straw was Chapter 47, which features one of the main characters, Y.T., who is 15 YEARS OLD finding a 40-year-old man with poor impulse control sexy and describes her feeling sexually frustrated and being used to men ogling over her. I get this is something that happens in real life, I do. I am not interested in reading a nearly 40 year old man (at the time this was written) talk about a 15 year old like that.

EDIT: Googling apparently confirms that later on there is an explicit sex scene between Y.T. and Raven (the 40 year old). Yeah no.

The Deliverator scene is the best part of the book, hands down.
