While I find Essie more likeable, and Essie and Farrendel are the very sweetest and most adorable couple ever, I discovered that Melantha is a much more relatable character for me in this book. I think Melantha's story and redemption/healing arc is really what bumped this book up from just a 'nice story, four stars' rating for me.
