Man, I gotta say, I don’t really get poetry. It’s actually so sad, bc I can see the potential of these sonnets. But they just didn't engage me on an emotional level. I will try again in the future probably, I do hope one day I’ll finally manage to enjoy poetry.

I chose to read Shakespeare's Sonnets for a book club challenge. I wanted to challenge myself to read outside my preferred "safe" genres and this definitely stretched me. I am glad I read them but I wouldn't say I loved them. I think that I realized that they are meant to be enjoyed one at a time with adequate time for reflection, etc. rather than all at once. I was, however, surprised at how few I knew - I definitely expected to know more. All in all, I'm glad I read them and next time, I'll read them slower and over a longer period of time.
