i didn't find world after to be as good as angelfall, i felt like the same plot line dragged on for too long at the start of the book. penryn was still a great character, and i loved learning more about paige. i'm definitely reading the next book too!

After waiting quite some while, I finally picked this book up. The first book was already shocking and pretty cool. So I expected the second one to kind of...yeah...be worse =P But I was proven wrong. Even though Raffe was missing most of the book, and I really missed Penryns conversations with him, it was fun to read. The whole thing, that went on at the resistance "camp" (Clara, and Paige, I am not going to say more) was a surprise. I thought the part of the resistance would be bigger. I loved how Penryn is growing with her problems. I mean, she was pretty kickass in the first book already - but she topped it again
I am really looking forward to the third book. I want to know how it continues especially when it comes to Paige. WTF is up with that girl?! I just wanna know what they did to her...if Raffe gets his precious *Censored* back, if those warrior slaughter angels go to hell finally etc. Can't wait =D
A full 5 star rating from me <3

Naming the archangel sword "Pooky Bear" was just epic. I could really picture Raffes face the moment he got to know, what his precious is named now =D The intimadating archangel sword introducing itself "FEAR MEH, I AM POOKY BEAR!!" And then she goes all badass with that pointy stick <3I am really looking forward to the third book. I want to know how it continues especially when it comes to Paige. WTF is up with that girl?! This was really good, Moved pretty quickly. I found the first book better but this book leaves you anticipating the next book. Worthy read.
Funny book, lots of sarcastic humor which I like. I like the romance in this also. I think the way she writes the romance is perfect and a lot more touching than other books where the teens are all over each other.

“It’s amazing how many times we need to go against our survival instincts to survive.”
➽ It has been a while since I read Angelfall, but I remember liking it because of its unique take on a post-apocalyptic world. Unfortunately, World After felt like a filler book that didn’t live up to its predecessor. We follow Penryn after her near-death experience that separated her from Rafe. With her schizophrenic mother and feral sister in tow, she’s trying to navigate this ‚World After‘. This sequel is written in a very readable and engaging way, but it has a few pitfalls that the first book avoided. I don’t think I’ll be reading the final book, as I don’t care enough about the story and have read reviews that were disappointed by the finale because it left so many unanswered questions.
➽ I still like the world and how it feels distinct from all the other Dystopian books of its time. The Angel invasion and creation of the Locusts provided a good backdrop to the story. I liked how Penryn reflected on the World Before and how much has changed, as everyone is scrambling to survive. It’s a constant dilemma between survival and empathy for others, with not even Penryn being sure how to strike the balance. She was a bit annoying at times (her calling Rafe’s sword Pooky Bear was the ultimate cringe), but I liked how headstrong and realistic she was. Penryn is using her self-defence skills to her advantage, but knows her weaknesses as well. Her character has a lot of potential, as she’s also messy and scared sometimes, e.g. when she has no idea how to hide her disgust at her sister’s new condition, even though she loves her.
➽ My biggest issue was the ableism, which is even worse than in Angelfall. Penryn’s mother’s entire personality was being the ‚crazy schizophrenic who destroyed her family’s life‘ which was so gross. I hate how Penryn talked down to her mother and made light of her illness. I know this book is older, but its mental health representation is truly atrocious. Penry’s sister Paige isn’t treated much better. I loved the bond between the sisters, but hated how Paige was ‚cured‘. She can now walk again, but is further demonized by everyone around her since becoming a monster. The explicit scene of her enduring ableist abuse by the antagonist felt so sensationalised. Penry’s family is a mess of ableist writing.
➽ Apart from that, the story was slow and mostly set up for the next book. Barely anything significant happened until the very end, and even then, the climax felt like a rehash of Angelfall. Rafe was barely present in this book, and the dream sequences Penryn experienced via his sword were so cringy. It was an attempt to include Rafe that backfired. I wish we’d spent more time with the Resistance (even though Dee and Dum are so annoying), as that could have been interesting. Instead, Penryn’s journey felt aimless and all over the place, as if it couldn’t decide what it should focus on. I have to admit that the author has an engaging writing style, so I wasn’t bored, but that’s the one thing that made this sequel so bingeable.
