I don’t remember these stories being blatantly racist like this :/ this was so upsetting at times … especially when u compare it to newer adaptations (aka sherlock&co. - not perfect, they are still incapable of not glorifying?victimising military personnel, but at least I don’t have to be slapped by 18th century racism every now and then !)
(also I don’t think conan is that good of an author outside of his ability to create gripping mysteries and interesting characters, his style is fine ig but it’s nothing special lol, also the two stories that were supposed to be written by sherlock ? what the hell, sure. didn’t like it, I think he should have worked harder in making it seems like sherlock wrote it, and not just watson lying to try and get some public attention :/) - tbh Im generally just very upset about the racism in this collection lol …

This one was a mix of really intriguing mysteries, and some not-so-interesting ones, so three stars is all it's getting. I'm a little sad I've finished all of Holmes' adventures, though.

i found this to be quite disappointing.
this whole book had a different ambiance than the rest of the sherlock holmes series, and i understand that it's due to the fact that holmes and watson are now retired and growing old, but it was more than simply that. the cases weren't all that interesting with an exception of 3, and some of the cases were so boring that i wouldn't read the book simply because the cases are incredibly dull. there's nothing that was remarkable about this book, so there isn't much for me to say. i cannot bring myself to give it lower than 3 stars though, which is why it gets this rating.

Has a couple of my favorite Holmes cases, and a couple of my least favorite.
The Casebook is not the strongest of the Holmes oeuvre---it's not nearly as excellent as the Adventures, for example. However, it's still quite satisfying to the Holmes-o-phile.
