Kat Donovan is a NYPD Detective, flawed by an earlier relationship (aren't they all?), who finds her ex on a singles site. A site stalked by a serial killer, who seems hauntingly familiar. As more women die, and she digs deeper, she finds herself digging into her past relationships with her family too. Will she be the next victim?
We thought that the women on the dating site were all a little too naive and desperate, but we're not really the same demographic. The story is a little slow to get going, but once it does there's plenty of action, plenty of subplots, and plenty of red herrings. Some of the twists - none of us saw coming. As for the final climax, it is a surprise, of course. However, all the loose ends seemed to wrap up a bit quickly for us, with Kat being a little too forgiving. At any rate, while apparently some of his other novels are better, we still gave it a 4 out of 5.

One of my all-time favourite authors, Harlan Coben, did it again. Even though this newest book, "MIssing you", is a standalone one which means we have to miss the charming company of Myron Bolitar, it is one of the best books I have ever read by Coben. The book contains, as always, very well developed characters and a stunning plot with tons of twists. What did it for me, in this book, is the fact that the American FIU (Financial Intelligence Unit) is involved, as well as suspicious transaction reports and that the whole scheme of romance scams is being revealed. Something that I - having worked myself for 8 years at the Belgian FIU and having seen thousands of SAR's, not to mention billions of romance scams - just LOVE. Coben intertwines different stories and makes them come neatly together in the end, with a final twist that I thought I saw coming, then lost and then turned out to be true after all. Brilliant! I want more!
One small question mark on p. 38: Coben, an American author, writing a story that takes place in the USA, suddenly talks about meters and kilometres? Huh? What happened?

I felt some of the story was forced and the threads didn't always connect so well for me. I would try another Coben book though.

Didn't like this one. Sometimes you can tell a book was written by a man, even if you didn't know the author. For instance: The opening bar scenes were so cheesy and overly dramatic. Chaz was a boring and- again- cheesy character. He named the cross dressers "aqua" and "sugar?" (Eye roll) I was also really annoyed at how repetitive some of it was. For example if I had to hear once more how beautiful Stacey was, or how douchey Chaz' "fly-yellow" Ferrari was, I could have stopped reading. It was one of those books I couldn't wait to be done with- so I could read something else.
