I love TJ Klune. He rips out your heart but then puts it back and you can’t stop reading. You love the characters and root for them. I thought this would be an automatic 5 star!

I loved all the characters and I did root for everyone! It was a little uncomfortable for me possibly because it was YA and everyone was family but there were some romantic overtones. Everyone was just too young and maybe too much of an age gap for me. There’s definitely trigger warnings that probably should have been noted in the beginning of the book.

But I’ve been told the other books are way way better. I bet they will have 5 stars. We shall see!

I was so disappointed by this book since I love under the whispering door and house in the cerulean sea so much. The writing, especially the dialogue, made me almost DNF this so many times.
“Blah. Blah” I said.
“Blah blah” he said.
“Blah. Blah” I said.
“Blah blah” he said
“Blah. Blah” I said.
“Blah blah” he said.
Did TJ Klune forget there are words other that said to describe dialogue? There were hardly any descriptors in this book at all. Also the word ‘and’ must have been used 8000 times.
“It was cold. And. It was wet. And. It was rainy. And. There were no lights. And. The wind was blowing. And….”
Such awful writing in honesty in shock. Maybe the audio book made this seem worse?
I was also really shocked how vulgar this book was. There was a very explicit sex scene and some pretty extreme lusting over a teenager. Again, I love Under the whispering door and the house in the cerulean sea and neither of them had sex scenes that I can recall. I will not be reading any more of this series, and probably not any more TJ Klune either.

I was hoping this would be a light love story adventure. It's not. It's very dark, yes love story but with lots of twists and turns and scary terrifying characters, deaths and some intense detailed sex scenes.

Very very adult werewolf book, don't let the cover mislead you.

That said it's a good story but there is  kidnapping, a mass murderer and torturer, and many incident deaths, so not for the feint of heart

I honestly did not know what to expect going into this book. I enjoyed the one other TJ Klune book I’ve read, but this one was so much darker. I honestly really enjoyed that though. He didn’t hold back during fights scenes or in the life changing events the characters went through. It felt high stakes the entire time.

The only reason this isn’t a 5 star from me is because I struggle a bit with Klune’s writing style. Once I am fully into the book it’s easier, but something about the flow is just a little bit off to me until I settle in.
