I really struggled with the age difference of the two main characters being in a sexual relationship. And I didn’t think the writing was that great- super repetitive, which was not effective. It was hard reading about  a toxic relationship that was glorified.  I have no problem with gay sex, but the sex scenes were really graphic – gratuitously so. It feel like I was reading porn.

I have enjoyed other books from this author, so I was surprised.  I don’t think he did a good job with character development this time, and the characters weren’t particularly likable. I will not be reading the rest of this series.

I certainly enjoyed parts of this book more than others. It feels very indulgent in ways I didn’t mind, but some people may find it cringey. Deeply heartfelt and angsty, while also a little repetitive at times. It does feel like the repetition is a choice based on the narration style, but repetitive nonetheless. The book could have been shorter based on the simplicity of the plot, but there were many good character interactions that bulked it out, and I enjoyed seeing how all the characters’ intimacy unfolded in that way. Character conversations and narrator introspection is the focus, rather than external worldbuilding.

I am familiar with Klune’s other works, and this absolutely feels like something he wrote prior to finding his author’s voice and style. But honestly, I came here for indulgent, angsty, queer werewolves and I was definitely not disappointed.

Very emotionally intense (can be taxing for us empathetic types - worth it, just be prepared). Gets a bit repetitive sometimes. The time jumps are probably the best written/handled I've read in a long time. (I can't stand a jarring time jump.) Strikes the balance of making you feel 3 long years with Ox without it actually taking 3 years to read.

I honestly did not know what to expect going into this book. I enjoyed the one other TJ Klune book I’ve read, but this one was so much darker. I honestly really enjoyed that though. He didn’t hold back during fights scenes or in the life changing events the characters went through. It felt high stakes the entire time.

The only reason this isn’t a 5 star from me is because I struggle a bit with Klune’s writing style. Once I am fully into the book it’s easier, but something about the flow is just a little bit off to me until I settle in.
