This is a good book for those who like Greek mythology. However, I found some of the decisions made by the main character to be contradictory to how they were introduced which took me out of the story some.

Atalanta has always been my favourite Greek hero. She is underrated and to finally see a fictionalized version of her legend come to life has been a dream come true.

ATALANTA tells the story of the aforementioned hero, a woman raised by bears, nymphs, and the goddess Artemis who eventually goes on a quest with Jason and the Argonauts to not only find the Golden Fleece, but to make a name for herself as a hero.

Atalanta as a character is just as I hoped she would be. Fierce, determined, ambitious, and able to back up her words with action, she has the exact personality I always imagined she would have. Side characters like Jason, Heracles, and Meleagar add interesting parallels and broaden Atalanta's perspective of the world, though readers should be aware that this book follows closely to the mythology, which means not every character will get as much page time as others.

That of course leads to Atalanta herself, a woman who is so often in the background, yet who fights to be in the forefront. While she is a capable warrior, the story definitely has moments where other characters make challenges easier, leaving Atalanta on the side again. This is likely intentional, but I would have loved to see my favorite hero more at the forefront.

The writing is smooth and easy to follow, and respect is paid to the lore. Anyone who knows of Atalanta's story is certain to be pleased with her big moments.

All in all, this is a book I always hoped to read, and I would love to see more renditions of her story in the future.
