I'm always worried that sequels will be a letdown, but this one was better than the first! I fell in love with the world of Weep in Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares both expands the world and wraps it together. Questions are answered, characters develop, and even more stories of horror, despair and love are revealed.
I was worried about the book opening with Kora and Nova, as I thought maybe it would muddy the waters of the storytelling. But their story is woven seamlessly into the main narrative and the storytelling and world building are phenomenal. I love dark fantasy and there's plenty of that in this book, but also plenty of happiness and light.
I loved that all the "bad guys" were complex and interesting. Minya is tragic and complex and brilliently written. There are plenty of reveals in this book but they never feel like corny twists for the sake of it. The story of Skathis, Isagol and the rest of the terible gods is unfolded gradually and everything builds up to an excellent climax.
I loved the ending.
Spoiler I'm really not someone who like happy endings usually, and bringing people back from the dead is one of my pet hates in books. So it's a testament to Taylor's writing and world building that I loved that Azareen and Eril-Fayn got their fresh start, and that everyone ended up happy ever after.
This book is a wonderful, dark fairytale.

This was as beautiful as I remember the first book to be. I love that the conflict is so gray. You can look at all sides and understand why they're doing what they're doing, but at the same time why it's wrong in the eyes of the other characters.
The writing is wonderful, a bit flowery but not in a way that makes the book difficult. There were small parts of the story that I found weak towards the end, but it doesn't break the book.

What a beautifully intricate story filled with magic, pain, and hope. While it started a bit slow, the plot picked up around the 80-page mark and kept me hooked as two storylines converged in unexpected ways. Laini Taylor’s writing is stunning, with descriptions so vivid that I could see everything in my mind, which made the reading experience all the more immersive.

The complexity of the characters, especially Minya and her internal battle, brought so much emotional depth to the story. I loved seeing the interplay between Sarai and Lazlo, and the exploration of Korako’s role as a goddess was fascinating. This book had it all—action, emotion, and layers of tension that built up to a satisfying conclusion. Though some chapters were a bit slow, the way Taylor tied up every loose end made it worth the journey. I will definitely miss the characters and this incredible world Laini Taylor created.

I can't wait but help myself reading this second book right after the first part of the two book series. This book was fast paced, intriguing, emotional, roller coaster time traveling, and a mythical chaotic story. I like the flow of the story, love the characters, love the new nemesis such twists and heartaches all at the same time. Although there were some lapses, some incongruences and inconsistencies as to who's who or who's talking or maybe it's the version of the ebook. But most of it was to be expected, and I still got surprised, amused and frustrated. And for some reason I find and see myself in their world. I felt their pain, the loss and longing, and the never ending loop of dread and hope. It is strangely beautiful, strangely crazy, and strangely captivating and frustratingly sad. Strange, weird and irresistibly mental. I hope to see this on tv or live action movie. And wish there'd be another part as to where they'll be heading next. Such an adventure with psychology.

Laini Taylor does it again, she writes a book so precious that I can't finish it, so I read a few chapters every day and then stop afraid to end this world of magic and beauty. I really didn't know how she could go on writing after the devastating ending of last book, but she could. And then I started reading and it was such an impossible situation it seemed it couldn't last so many pages, it should last in blodd bath and just with a few pages everything would end. And then... and then things happened.
Just go, read and be full with poetry and beauty and love and hate and war and forgiveness.
Loved each word of it. All so fitting.
