I was all set to give this 2.5 stars due to its immature silliness, but the last couple chapters were heartfelt enough to push it up to 3 stars. I wish it would've been more honest throughout, instead of oblivious goofiness.

I loved this book. It covers a weighty topic of the death of a loved one and the black hole that is left in the wake. But it does it in such a caring humorous way. My boys and I laughed until we cried and then we also cried at the sad bits too having recently gone through a big loss in our lives. I didn't know what I was signing up for when I grabbed this title but it is one of my all-time favorite books.

Read this out loud to the kids. Did not expect to cry. The book is about a girl grieving the loss of her dad and how she works through it and honors his life.

A very sweet lighthearted book about grief. I would highly recommend this book to young teens and older children. A great way to understand grief in a humorous way.

What a cute little book.
I picked this one up in the sales in one of my favourite bookstores for like 80p and decided it would be nice to read something light and easy. Yes, it’s for children, but it was actually such an insightful read about coping with the death of someone close to you and the importance of family. I can imagine that this book would be perfect for any child who is going through something similar.
The concept of a pet black hole is very… interesting, but the perfect theme for children who are into space or just want to read something a bit wacky.
The writing was lovely, the descriptions easy to digest and overall a fun, passionate tale of love and family.
And pet black holes.

Baca ini berharap I have same feeling when read A Monster Calls but it feel different. Aku kira bakalan bikin nangis sesenggukan, but yeah cuman begitu. Premis cerita nya bagus sih tentang dealing witg grief for young age. Suka bagian humor-humor sains nya, baca ini keinget perasan sama pas baca See you in cosmos Jack Chang, Fakta sains juga salah satu favorite part. Dan penyajian cerita yang penuh dengan humor juga cuman kadang ada beberapa bagian yang emang bikin bosen dan aku ngerasa si tokoh stella nya ini di akhir too mature for her age. After all, buku ini cocok buat di baca anak-anak usia 11 tahun keatas to knowing how dealing with grief dengan metafora "black holes"

This book was such a good read aloud for my 3rd graders! It incorporated elements of space, dealing with grief, and lots of humor. My kids loved it and I loved reading it too!
