i adored defy the night when i read it in 2021, and was highly anticipating this sequel!

i will admit that at the beginning, it was slow and i was waiting for it to pick up. i was hesitant to love it because of the love triangle i could see forming and the miscommunication between tessa and corrick, whose romance i was downright obsessed with in book 1.

the second half really picked up and delivered! the twists actually had me screaming “WHAT?” out loud. excited for the next book especially because of the cliffhanger.

truly adore harristan and i’m so glad we get more of his character in this book. he’s precious!!!

Brigid Kemmerer can write a story! I loved the continued growth of the characters and how morally grey some of them are...and the struggles that come with that. There are so many hidden motives that make you question loyalties. The tension is palpable and there are some shocking revelations. The last sentence made me scream out loud! So good!

While I did love the book, i found it not as strong as Defy the Night. The middle of the book, especially the first days of Corrick’s and Tessa’s journey to Ostriary felt a bit boring and repetitive.

I also really enjoyed how Harristans POV was introduced in this book, it made his character much more developed and devastating at the same time.

Also, the cliffhanger?! I remember I was devestated the first time I read it, and a lot of elements I’ve forgotten cought me off guard.

I am so very excited for the conclusion to the trilogy!
