I picked up this book unprepared to find out that Agatha Christie actually did disappear in real life. Of course, in the real story, she doesn’t remember where she was but this story is a version of what could have really happened. I was enthralled from start to finish. I’m not sure if I believed Agatha did it just to get back at her husband because once the police and media got that involved, I’m not sure I could keep going without guilt. I enjoyed this ‘what if’ book though!

I struggled with this one. All characters were annoying and absolutely unbearable! This is a short book with very short chapters so I could have read it in a day but it took me longer than I would want to. I love Agatha Christie's work - I read it since I was a young girl but I rather not think of her as this pathetic character.
Also, be warned, it spoils one of her first works - without warning, in one sentence, with no point to the story.
I would not recommend.

The book was enjoyable except for the overuse of knocking chairs over when getting up quickly and the clipping sound of shoes when people walked. It got kind of redundant.

My initial take on this book: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” but “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” In addition to being based on actual people and events, this is a cautionary tale (embedded in 1920’s social mores of genteel England) to self-centered, spoiled, philandering husbands who want to quietly divorce their steadfast wives and marry their young mistresses. Not going to happen. At least, not without a nationwide fuss and the eventual involvement of Scotland Yard. Even while quite immersed in the narrative, my over-riding feeling while reading this story was sadness for the inevitable disintegration of Agatha and Archie Christie’s marriage of two quite unlike minds. I was also disappointed by the brevity of the novel—less than 300 pages; I’m certain that I’ve written longer emails! 3.5 stars, rounded down.

Twists and surprises! Ending with a punch! Enjoyed the plot. Clever reconstruction of Mrs.Christie’s mysterious disappearance in 1926.
