A bit pretentious but that is sort of the point - this reads like a Zadie Smith book. Very lyrical writing and the plot zoomed along for such a lengthy read. Identity politics mixed in with spot-on (yet overly analytical/oversimplified) social commentary, and a romantic anchor tying everything all together.

Like Jhumpa Lahiri's heartwrenching diaspora epics with Jennifer Egan's witty contemporary vignettes and a bunch of tumblr social commentary/obligatory self-loathing, too. In Nigeria, and the US, and England, and Nigeria again. Pretty much made for my brown feminist demographic. Only hang up is I just don't get the kind of romantic love at the center of this story. But really pretty great.

Very interesting to read how someone coming from Nigeria had to "learn to be black" in the United States.

Very well written but for some reason this was a real struggle for me to get through. Perhaps if I had read this at a different time I would have liked it better.

So beautiful. Full of sentences that are somehow simultaneously terribly sad and absolutely funny.
