This book should be required reading for American classrooms. I can’t express enough how much I  loved this book. It was impossible to put down, the story immediately engrossed me into the lives of its narrators. What a beautiful web of prose and education. I learned so much but, like many horrific realities in America’s history, I should have learned long ago. The only reason I gave it less than a 5 was because I wanted Sara to share even more.

Excellent page turner, I learned a lot and was moved. Would also recommend to teens.

I would put this book between a 3 and a 4. I did love the way it was written, with the different "voices", and the style to discriminate when characters were speaking with their voice, signing, or texting. I learned a lot about ASL through the information at the end sections. I guess I felt the ending was a bit rushed and flat, compared to the plot lead up and character development.
