Having never read the Da Vinci Code, I cannot compare the writing, but from the outset, this book seemed more in tune with historical fact rather than the contrived and murky "might-have-beens" of Dan Brown. Similar genre, well-written. I liked.

I couldn't finish this - it was too awful. Bad writing, terrible dialogue, half a million characters I couldn't keep straight..... and 300 pages in, I still wasn't entirely sure what was going on. Part of the book centers on the struggle between the Catholic Church and the Cathars in southern France, but she never actually explains *why* that happened - or what the differences between the two were. Just not buying it. Note to self: let's avoid books about Grails in the future, 'kay?

There will be no need for me to continue with the trilogy. This book needed a good editor to focus the story more. It was a waste of time to read this.
