I loved The Name Bearer so much when it first came out and when I was given the chance to read another book by Natalia I jumped at the chance. This book is filled with feel good vibes, funny supporting characters (a talking guinea pig with a foul mouth? Yes please!), and hand drawn illustrations that just made the book that much better.

Asiri has the ability to speak to animals, but it comes at a cost. Her gift is exploited by her father and the organization that he works for. And Asiri is tired of it. So she runs away to a quaint little port town to start a new life. Even though she has vowed to start over she keeps being drawn back into the animal world by the village's animal healer Dario. So when a mythical Amaru is found injured Asiri and Dario must work together to bring it back to health. Or potentially face the creature's wrath.

I loved this book just as much as Natalia's previous book. Her writing style flow makes for an easy read and her characters are relatable. What I did not expect from this book was the SPICE. It was a wholly pleasant surprise and just added an extra layer to the book that I didn't know it was missing. If you loved The Followers of Flowers you will love this book too!

This was such a cozy romcom novel set in Peru with animals, special gifts, and a mythical creature. The romance moves a bit fast for my liking ends a bit too abruptly but it’s still such a cute read. Loved being able to see all the different animals speak to Asiri, each with different personalities. The townspeople in Pisqu make up the ideal community, and Dario’s passion for caring for animals is the best. If you’re looking for a quick and easy read, something that’s cozy and without much drama, this is for you. Looking forward to the next book in this series!
