I loved the first book of this series but tbh I'm having a hard time rating this part. I grew to love Chrysanthi's chapters and story arch but the rest of the characters felt lacking.

I believe a lot of the appeal from Rhea's and Lexos's chapters were lost in this book so that was a little disappointing. Overall still enjoyed it but it was not what I was anticipating after reading the first book.

Additionally, there was so much build up regarding Rhea's potential and the connection between their mother, that was not fulfilled in the book. Honestly it left me confused and wondering why so much time was dedicated to their mother's story.

I'm actually so sad. I love all other books I've read by Rory Power, but this series was just not it for me. And reading this book I realized that I actually liked the first book in the series much more. I honestly don't understand the point that this book was trying to make, and to me it basically undid all the build-up of the first book.

I was a bit worried about this one going in, given the pacing issues of the first book, but oh, was that the least of my worries. Sadly, the ending is not going to be for most people as it does not feel satisfying in the way that Rory Power normally delivers. I, however, am unsure how it would have been best fixed. Just overall bummed with this one.

I received an ecopy of this through Netgalley; however, all opinions are my own.

The pacing in this was strange, and it felt like the ending was almost rushed. A lot was left unresolved but overall a good duology!

I barely finished this book. I regret having read this duology at all. If I could go back and not read it, I would.

rory power has done it again, folks. without belaboring her characters and their motivations, she has managed to succinctly craft a poignant duology of rebellion, betrayal, heartbreak, and self-discovery.
i was in a wicked reading slump for months and this book clawed me out of it. enough said.

Not sure why all the hate for this book. It was a good sequel that took the conflict and characters from the first book in unexpected directions. Character growth and motivations were believable. The world building was good and consistent/built on the foundation of the first book.
