I will admit, I was a little worried at the beginning of this book. It started off a little slow for me, which is so unlike an Avery Flynn book. But it picked up a few chapters in and became everything I love about books by Ms. Flynn and then some.

The banter and snark
The off the charts chemistry
The family interactions

And I can’t wait to see where this bet takes Griff and Nash!!

Mama’s Boy is the first book in the new Last Man Standing series. The series is based on three cousins whose grandmother recently died. The three men found a wrapped present with no name on it. The only way the three men could decide who the present should go to is by a bet. They had to have six dates with whoever responded first to their profile on a dating app. Whoever is still single at the end of the year gets the present. The story was full of humor and witty banter. I loved Dixon’s profile and how he thought he had made it so bad that no one would respond. Fiona and Dixon were a great couple, and I enjoyed their book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A sweet romcom with a unique premise: Dixon and his cousins have a bet that Dixon needs to go on six dates and not fall in love. To this end he makes a horrible dating profile with only one person responding. Enter Fiona, a grade school teacher with a secret agenda. She has no interest in falling in love with Dixon either but after six dates hearts are on the line. Fun and flirty, this was a light-hearted romance with steam that was easy to listen to on audio. Recommended for fans of Meghan Quinn.

5 easy stars

Avery Flynn’s Hartigan family is one of my absolute favorite fictional families. They’re funny, close, seem to have no idea about boundaries, and are all so genuine.
Fiona is absolutely no exception. Dixon, on the other hand, was interesting, intense, and unexpected. I DO feel like the cousins were a bit TOO present in this book, and if **I** were dating a man whose cousins pulled that kinda stuff on me, I’d walk as quickly as my feet could go. Nonetheless, this was an easy 5 stars, I’ll recommend it to everybody, and I’ll probably reread it again!

Hot, steamy and funny, Mama’s Boy is a rewarding read

What you need to know about “Mama’s Boy”:
✔ features The Hartigans
✔ Dual Point of View
✔ Hot & Steamy, Insta-love Romance
✔ Fiona Hartigan, third grade teacher
✔ Dixon Beckett, CEO of Beckett Cosmetics
✔ takes place in Harbor City
✔ Number 1 of a series, Last Man Standing

Mama’s Boy introduces three cousins: Dixon, Nash and Griff. Dixon “gullible was tattooed across his forehead” Beckett; he keeps a swarm of assistants to keep people away from him. Nash is “smooth” with “model looks” he always has quick, easy answers. Griff is all “tats and muscles” and keeps his mouth shut.

Their late grandma, Betty was known for her fantastic gift-giving so when they find an unlabelled Christmas present from her after her funeral they come up with a plan to figure out who it should go to.

The competition to get the gift is going to be: “the last man standing single...by Christmas.”

Dixon absolutely does not want to get married again as his wife died two years ago and he had decided never to fall in love again.

They each will have to go on a dating app and date the first woman who responds for six dates. And they get to plan each other’s dates.

Dixon thinks he’s going to win by writing the worst bio in dating app history including the fact that his date “must hate dogs”.

But he never counted on Fiona Hartigan.

Fiona is known for being gullible as well. She’s just discovered something about her most recent boyfriend that horrifies her and makes her mad at the world. She pledges to no longer be that gullible Fiona. She wants to be New Fiona and tries to act like her sister Fallon.

Before she deletes her dating app she scrolls through and sees Dixon’s bio. She’s been trying to get an appointment with Dixon for months so she decides dating him will be her revenge.

And so they meet.

Dixon and Fiona are so alike underneath the little lies and pretences they form that they are instantly attracted to one another. It’s almost a case of insta-love but later on they build a foundation for it so it made me less leery of that trope in this instance.

This book is an introduction to a series so it was a little clunky at first as it laid down the parameters of the bet and introduced the characters.

Thankfully the female main character is Fiona Hartigan, of the fabulous Hartigans who have been featured in many of Avery Flynn’s books.

The Hartigans always bring fun and shenanigans whenever they appear.

I loved the relationship between Dixon and Fiona even though it happened very fast. Dixon is a sympathetic character because of his past even though he’s so caught up in winning.

Fiona isn’t sure who she wants to be due to having her heart broken one too many times and that’s a concept that we can probably all relate to. Her loving nature shines through no matter how hard she tries to cover it up.

I’m looking forward to reading the other cousin’s stories and the ongoing story of the bet.

I won this book through a goodreads giveaway. If you enjoyed any of the previous Harbor City books, then you will enjoy this one. In this book you get to know Fiona (one of the seven Hartigans), meet some new characters, and revisit with past characters. It was a fun read.

Really cute and fun book. I found it to be slightly cheesy, but in a good way (if that makes sense). I enjoyed getting the story from both perspectives and the characters were really relatable and likeable.
